NFL WEEK 1 SPITBALL PICKS

Oh my, she is beautiful.

Oh my, she is beautiful.

WE MADE IT, IT IS WEEK 1 OF THE NFL. HAPPY GAME DAY EVERYONE.

Full slate of NFL games, what a beautiful site. I’m just so happy to have football back. Week 1 of the NFL is like Christmas Morning, now let’s get down to it and talk picks. Here is how we will format it every week: 5 picks per member there will be a 5 point play, a 4 point play and so on. Brian and myself will provide our favorite 5 picks in order every week. No more explaining, here’s my favorite picks for week 1.

5 POINT PLAY Cardinals - Titans OVER 53

This is going to be the fun one. This is going to be one of the most fun games of the season, superstars everywhere, Kyler, D-Hop, Henry, Julio, AJ Brown, explosiveness everywhere, 5 pt play, over 53.5.

4 POINT PLAY - New York JETS +3.5

Give me the new and excited New York Football Jets in Carolina +3.5. Robert Saleh will have them excited, Zach Wilson is ready, and the game opened at +5. As a Jets fan I'm excited for the new regime. I like the Jets outright as well, but let’s go with the points here. Hope the new staff can make Sam Darnold “see ghosts” again, Jets +3.5.

3 POINT PLAY - WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM -2

Washington has one of my favorite rosters in the NFL. All this team needs is a a little “Magic” from the quarterback position. If there’s any of that left for Fitzpatrick, Washington will be a very good team. Washington has a VICIOUS defense, a young talented offense, and a great coaching staff. For some reason they are getting NO RESPECT. Justin Herbert will have his hands full, WFT -2 at home.

2 POINT PLAY - JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS -3

Fading the Texans will probably be an easy way to hit on picks this season. The Texans will be really bad, but. I expect mild fireworks from the Jags, Trevor Lawrence, and the new Urban Meyer System. The #1 overall pick has a day on his debut. Give me the Jags -3.

1 POINT PLAY - GREEN BAY PACKERS -3.5.

Go Pack Go. The Rodgers F-U tour starts strong. The Packers are my Super Bowl pick. I think their defense is better than given credit for. What better way to prove that than against Jameis Winston? I’ll say it multiple times this season, Rodgers is pissed, I don’t really know who he’s pissed at, or why, but he’s pissed. When he plays with a chip on his shoulder he is dangerous.

BRIAN’S PICKS

5 Point Pick - Indianapolis Colts +3

When lines opened earlier in the summer, Vegas installed the Colts as three-point favorites over the Seahawks, only to adjust the line to Seattle -2.5 when Carson Wentz and Quenton Nelson picked up training camp injuries. Now both Wentz and Nelson have been ruled active, and the line just sits right where it is? You’ll come to learn I’m an absolute sucker for home dogs.

4 Point Pick - Las Vegas Raiders +3 1st HALF

Call it a cheese bet if you want, but this feels like the two most dangerous words in gambling: free money. Vegas FINALLY gets to open their new stadium in front of a fanbase that has already embraced pro sports in a major way. Now they get to do it against a beat-up Baltimore Ravens team missing Gus Edwards and Marcus Peters. I can’t say for certain that the Raiders will hold off Lamar Jackson for 60 minutes, but it would shock me if the Gru Crew doesn’t come out firing Monday night.

3 Point Pick - New York Jets +3.5

Lord help me, I’m back on my bullshit. I regrettably love the Jets this week, a team that’s being slightly undervalued by the public coming up against a team (and most notably a quarterback) that has no business being a heavy favorite over any team. Sam Darnold is also a QB that this Jets team, in spite of adapting to a new system, should be more than prepared to face. I’m less bullish now that the line has (correctly) adjusted from 5.5 to 3.5, but I still like Zack Wilson and Robert Saleh to pull out a W in their first NFL games today.

2 Point Pick - Washington Football Team -2

Something about this line smells off to me. While I think both teams are a little undervalued by the public, Washington coming in under the gratuitous home -3 seems like major value. The only reason I won’t place this game higher is the pesky Thursday night game looming for WFT.

1 Point Pick - Jacksonville Jaguars -3

This is a game I could easily place at the five point level, but I won’t simply out of principle. Just about every team in the NFL should steamroll over the Texans this year, and the Jaguars should be no different. I have reservations about how Urban Meyer will adapt to the NFL, but absolutely none about Trevor Lawrence’s ability to make a great first impression. I just can’t bring myself to place the road team in a divisional game any higher.

ENJOY FOOTBALL EVERYONE, FOOTBALL IS BACK.
